Our Story
We Are Filmmakers First.
Built on a Conviction.
Ndwela Media Uganda was founded by filmmakers and photographers who grew up watching East African stories go untold — or told badly by people who did not understand them.
We started in Kampala with a camera and a conviction: that authentic stories, made with craft and care, change how people see the world. A decade later, that conviction is still what drives every project we take on.
We work with brands, NGOs, development organisations, and international productions. We make documentaries, produce films, and photograph the moments that deserve to last. All of it rooted in a deep respect for the places, people, and cultures we document.
Purpose Before Production.
Mission
To document East Africa honestly — through documentary film, photography, and strategic storytelling that serves the people and organisations doing meaningful work.
Vision
To be the production house that East Africa’s best stories trust most.
Approach
We research before we script. We listen before we film. We ask what needs to change in the mind of the viewer before we decide what goes on screen.
Five Things We Never Compromise.
Authenticity
We do not manufacture emotion. We find it.
Craft
Every frame, every cut, every word is deliberate.
Respect
For our subjects, our clients, and our culture.
Collaboration
The best films are made together.
Purpose
We only take on work that matters.
The People Behind the Lens.
Ronnie Rains Bwire
Director & Co-Founder 2nd Place, People Category, Uganda Press Photo Awards (UPPA), 2018 — for “Mothers and Daughters”Ronnie Rains Bwire is a Ugandan filmmaker, director of photography, and visual artist with a decade of hands-on production experience across East Africa. He has produced and shot across the full range of professional production — documentary film, NGO impact content, corporate campaigns, feature films, and editorial photography. His set experience is deep and varied: from managing multi-location field productions across Uganda to directing photography on commercial shoots in Kampala. He brings both creative vision and production discipline to every brief, ensuring the work resonates with local audiences while meeting the standards international clients expect. He co-founded Ndwela Media on one belief: that the right story, told with honesty and craft, has the power to shift how people see the world.
Arthur Kyemba Tusabe
Co-Founder & Executive ProducerArthur is a producer and production manager who brings the discipline and precision of both law and filmmaking to every shoot. He serves as producer on the majority of Ndwela’s productions — building crews, coordinating locations, managing schedules, and ensuring every project is delivered at the standard the story deserves. His background as a trained lawyer gives him a distinctive edge: a rigour for process, a precision for detail, and a deep understanding of the social issues that run through much of the work we do. When the camera rolls on a Ndwela production, Arthur is the reason everything is in place.
Kabunga Tonny
Filmmaker & GafferWith seven years in the film industry and three years as part of the Ndwela team, Tonny is driven by a singular passion: telling stories that move people. As a filmmaker and gaffer, he brings both creative instinct and technical craft to every set — shaping light with the same care he brings to shaping narrative.
Joel Zimbe
Lead PhotographerJoel is Ndwela’s lead photographer, responsible for the visual language of every production. His eye for light, composition, and movement has defined the look of some of Ndwela’s most-viewed work across Uganda and East Africa.
Trusted Across East Africa.
Ndwela understood what we were trying to achieve before we could fully articulate it ourselves. The documentary they produced for KOICA captured the real human story behind the programme — exactly what our communications team needed.
Programme Communications Lead KOICA Uganda
Working with Ndwela felt like working with people who genuinely cared about the outcome. They brought ideas we had not considered, and the final films performed above every benchmark we had set.
Head of Marketing Equity Bank Uganda
They went into communities that most production teams would not have reached. The footage was extraordinary and the team handled every logistical challenge without missing a single delivery date.
